CADET MEMBERSHIPCivil Air Patrol cadet membership is open to young people 12-18 years old. A cadet can remain in the program until age 21. Cadets progress through a 16-step program of aviation and aerospace activities while learning invaluable lessons on leadership and teamwork. Not only that, but cadets have fun! In the first year alone, a cadet can: Go flying; earn rank and awards; launch rockets; participate in search and rescue; camp out; and meet new friends. To join the Civil Air Patrol your first step is to visit a squadron meeting. During the meeting you will be shown around, introduced ![]() to squadron staff members, and provided with an opportunity to ask any questions you may have. You will also be provided with a New Cadet Packet to review, which contains useful information for new members as well as a membership application. Once the application is completed, a parent will need to accompany the new cadet to a squadron meting to discuss participation in the cadet program and to provide payment for membership dues. Membership dues cover the cadet's study materials, a binder, and a brand new cadet dress uniform. After reviewing the application, the squadron commander will sign and mail your application. Your membership materials arrive by mail within approximately two weeks. Cadets also require personalized uniform accessories which are outlined in the New Cadet Packet . With this cost taken into account, the total first year cost for a new cadet is approximately $70.00. It is Civil Air Patrol policy that no member shall be excluded from participation in, denied the benefits of, or subjected to discrimination in any CAP program or activity on the basis of race, sex, age, color, religion, national origin, or disability. Senior MEMBERSHIPSenior membership is one of the most rewarding opportunities in Civil Air Patrol! Senior Members are responsible for the execution of our missions and the supervision of cadet members. Senior Members participate in a professional development program where they study leadership and better themselves in a variety of methods. Our members come from many walks of life and have a variety of interests. Some members join to fly, others join to work with cadets, some join to help out wherever they are needed. The National Headquarters membership dues for new Officers are $68.00 and can be paid by check or money order made out to "Civil Air Patrol NHQ/DP". All new Officers joining Civil Air Patrol are required to submit fingerprints which are used to complete a confidential FBI background check at the national level. Members of the squadron are on hand at our regular meetings to complete the fingerprinting process for you. After reviewing the application, the squadron commander will sign and mail your application materials and your membership card will arrive by mail within approximately two weeks. It is Civil Air Patrol policy that no applicant meeting CAP's minimum age requirement will be denied membership in CAP on the basis of race, sex, age, color, religion, national origin, or disability (formerly handicap). CADET SPONSOR MEMBERSHIPParents, grandparents, and legal guardians have an opportunity to participate in Civil Air Patrol activities with their cadet through a Cadet Sponsor Membership. As a Cadet Sponsor Member, you may serve as a chaperone, provide transportation, or supervise cadets during squadron activities. Cadet Sponsors pay discounted annual membership fees and have a limited time commitment. There are no uniform requirements for Cadet Sponsors, though options are available. Cadet Sponsor Membership also allows you to ride along with your cadet in CAP vehicles or aircraft! To join as a Cadet Sponsor Member simply indicate your interest to your cadet's flight or squadron commander. You will be provided with a New Cadet Sponsor Packet to review, which contains useful information for new members as well as a membership application. PATRON MEMBERSHIPA patron member is a financial supporter of Civil Air Patrol's missions who maintains current membership through payment of annual dues and participates in a limited capacity. Patron members receive a specially annotated membership card. Patron members may attend unit activities, conferences, and other official events. Patron members may use Civil Air Patrol ground transportation, but use of Civil Air Patrol air transportation is prohibited. At any time, a patron may choose to transfer to active officer status without incurring any additional national membership dues. To join as a Patron, indicate your interest to the flight and/or squadron commander. You will be provided with aNew Patron Member Packet to review, which contains useful information for new members as well as a membership application. Once the application is completed, bring it to a squadron meeting along with payment for membership dues.
